The Austin Film Society and the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum are proud to present a special evening with Austin-based game developer and recent space traveler Richard Garriott. The evening will begin with a screening of IMAX 3D’s SPACE STATION followed by a unique presentation by Garriott with pictures and videos from his own recent travel to the International Space Station. This special presentation will be on Friday, January 16 at 7 PM at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum IMAX Theater.
SPACE STATION takes audiences, transported by the magic of IMAX 3D technology, into space with the astronauts and cosmonauts from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center and Russia’s Baikonur Cosmodrome to rendezvous with their new home, the International Space Station, in orbit 220 miles above Earth. SPACE STATION is the story of a unique partnership of 16 nations building a laboratory in outer space — a permanent facility for the study of the effects of long-duration exposure to zero gravity and the necessary first step towards the global co-operative effort needed if man is to someday set foot on Mars. The film, narrated by Tom Cruise, is a story of challenges, setbacks and triumphs and ultimately, the shared international victory of men and women whose dreams exceed the limits of life on this Earth.
The event is open to Austin Film Society & Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum members only. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for youth under 18.
Richard Garriott is available for interviews. Please contact Agnes Varnum, agnes@austinfilm.org, to place a request.
Austin Film Society promotes the appreciation of film and supports creative filmmaking by screening rarely seen films, giving grants and other support to emerging filmmakers, and providing access and education about film to youth and the public. Through Austin Studios, which AFS opened in 2000 in partnership with the City of Austin, AFS helps attract film development and production to Austin and Texas. Gala film premieres and the annual Texas Film Hall of Fame Awards raise funds as well as awareness of the impact of film on economy and community. The Austin Film Society is ranked among the top film centers in the country and recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and Directors Guild of America.
